Anthony Burrell is a dynamic choreographer, creative director, and educator whose work bridges concert dance, commercial performance, and arts education. Anthony Burrell is a dynamic choreographer, creative director, and educator whose work bridges concert dance, commercial performance, and arts education. A former principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Burrell brings a deep foundation in technique, storytelling, and cultural expression to every space he enters—on stage, on set, and in the classroom.
His performance and creative credits span some of the most influential platforms in entertainment. Burrell served as a creative director and choreographer for global icon Mariah Carey, contributing to her Las Vegas residency and international tour work. He was also part of the creative ecosystem surrounding Beyoncé’s *LEMONADE*, a project that earned both an MTV Video Music Award and a Peabody Award. His additional credits include work in film, television, and Broadway, demonstrating a versatility that moves fluidly between artistic mediums.
In academia, Burrell serves as an Associate Professor at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he is a founding faculty member of the Commercial Dance Program. His teaching philosophy centers on preparing dancers for real-world industry demands through performance-based learning, on-camera work, and interdisciplinary collaboration. He is known for creating immersive, professional-level experiences that challenge students to evolve as both artists and thinkers.
Burrell is also the Founder and Artistic Director of the Anthony Burrell Center for Dance, a nonprofit organization committed to expanding access, equity, and opportunity in dance education. Through initiatives like *Breaking Barriers*, he cultivates spaces where emerging artists—particularly from underrepresented communities—can develop their voice, build professional skills, and connect to meaningful career pathways.
